Play is a child’s first and most natural language. Through play and creative, relationship-based activities, children learn to express emotions, build social skills, solve problems, and make sense of their experiences in ways that feel safe and developmentally appropriate. Rather than focusing only on behavior, we explore what behavior is communicating and respond with curiosity, structure, and care.
Work is grounded in an attachment-based framework, the IDPSA model, which supports emotional regulation, strengthens connection, and builds confidence and problem-solving skills. Services include both individual sessions for your child and dedicated caregiver sessions for coaching, coordination, and practical tools to support progress at home.
Treatment may integrate play therapy, EMDR, and Parent–Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), always tailored to your family’s needs. Therapy is a partnership, focused on helping children feel safer, more connected, and more confident both inside and outside the therapy room.
PCIT is an evidence-based treatment for young children with behavioral problems.
The decision to whether PCIT is the most appropriate treatment for you and your child is between you and your mental health professional.
PCIT is conducted through "coaching" sessions during which you and your child are in a playroom while the therapist is in an observation room watching you interact with your child through a one-way mirror and/or live video feed. You wear a "bug-in-the-ear" device through which the therapist provides in-the-moment coaching on skills you are learning to manage your child's behavior. PCIT is done across two treatment phases.
Desired outcomes of the first phase of treatment in PCIT include:
Increased feelings of security, safety, and attachment to the primary caregiver
Increase in healthy attention-seeking behavior.
Increased attention span
Increased self-esteem
Increased pro-social behaviors (such as sharing and taking turns)
Desired outcomes of the second phase of treatment in PCIT include:
Increased compliance with adult requests
Increased respect for house rules
Improved behavior in public
Increased parental calmness and confidence during discipline
Increase in healthy co/self-regulation behavior
PCIT can be provided to children 2-6 with modifications for children ages 7-11
Therapy begins with an intake session. During this first meeting, we’ll talk through your concerns, your child’s history, and your family’s goals. We’ll review recommendations and important information such as consent, confidentiality, fees, and documentation, and work together to create a clear, personalized plan. This session is designed to help you feel informed, supported, and comfortable from the start.
Ongoing sessions are approximately 50 minutes and may be held in person or through secure telehealth. Because every child and family grows at their own pace, therapy does not follow a fixed timeline. We regularly check in on progress and adjust treatment as needed.
Care may include individual sessions with your child, caregiver or client-absent sessions for coaching and coordination, and family-based work such as Parent–Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT). Our approach is collaborative, flexible, and focused on supporting the whole family, not just the child, so growth continues both inside and outside the therapy room.
